The Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development, has revealed that the national celebrations of the International Youth Day for 2010 will take place in Kamuli Youth Centre Play Ground in Kamuli district. President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to preside over the celebrations.
The celebrations that will run under the theme “Dialogue and Mutual Understanding,” are set to take place on 12th August 2010.
In a news statement signed by the State Minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Dr. Emmanuel Otalla, the ministry has said that the theme of the was chosen to reflect and show the government’s appreciation of the value of dialogue among the youth from who hail from different cultures but face similar challenges.
The ministry says the theme also encourages government to work in partnership with the youth and youth organisations and thus enable the government to understand better their needs, concerns and contributions to society on top of encouraging the to dialogue, have mutual compassion and understanding among themselves.
This year’s International Youth Day Celebrations coincide with the 25th anniversary of International Youth Day and the Launch of the International Year of the Youth.
In December 2009 the UN adopted a resolution proclaiming the year commencing from 12th August 2010 as the year of the youth.
