This comes after a month of investigations that has seen over 81 suspects arrested in relation to the attacks which were said to have been orchestrated by the Al Shabaab.

The Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen Kale Kayihura has told journalists at the Media Centre that the police can now confirm that the terror attacks were planned by the Al Shabaab together with the Al Qaeda network.

“Through painstaking investigations, we have we have come to the fact that this was an international terrorist operation. The bombings were carried out through very careful planning by Al Queda and Al Shabaab terrorists” Kayihura reveled.

Kayihura has also identified Hassan Luyima to have been the chief coordinator of the bombings and he was helped by other suspects like Edris Nsubuga and many other Somali and Kenyan nationals to carry out the bombings.

He says most of the suspects are Kenyan nationals and only 22 of the 81 suspects have been directly linked to the attacks. Police has also released 24 of the suspects on bond.

Kayihura says that “investigations on these particular incidents are principally complete because we can now tell what happened, how it happened and why it happened.”
