Vicki St John Postgraduate Scholarship for Maori Students, New Zealand

Job Description: The Scholarship was established in 2008 and is funded by Vicki St John.
The main purpose of the Scholarship is to provide funding for Maori postgraduate students at The University of Auckland Business School.

Selection process:

* The Scholarship will be awarded to a postgraduate student who has paid the fees, or arranged to pay the fees, for full-time enrolment in any postgraduate programme offered by the Business School.
* The basis of selection will be academic merit and potential to succeed in postgraduate study. Strong leadership potential in school, community, profession or business, and a demonstrated commitment to community service will also be taken into consideration by the Selection Committee. Preference may be given to students who can demonstrate financial need.

How do students apply?
Applications by way of a form, CV, portfolio and 1-2 page essay, close with the Scholarships Office on 1 November in the year preceding the award. If the closing date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, applications will be accepted up to 5pm on the next working day. Applicants shall use the essay to comment on what their university education means to them and how they intend to use it to make a difference, be it in their whanau, hapu, community, tribe or in other ways.

Decision makers
The Scholarship will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council upon the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics (or nominee), the Associate Dean Maori & Pacific Development (or nominee) and the Donor (or nominee).

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Approximately six weeks after closing date by letter.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
The Scholarship is tenable by a Maori student who is a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand. Recipients must be able to provide evidence of their Maori descent.
