The MP for Lwemiyaga County, Theodore Sekikubo has warned the ruling National Resistance Movement party to solve the grievances of some party members in order to avoid having many NRM supporters contesting for seats as independent candidates.
Sekikubo was speaking after being declared winner of the NRM flag bearer elections after he petitioned the NRM electoral Commission which had declared his rival, Patrick Nkalubo as the winner.
The outspoken MP claimed there had been rigging and voter intimidation and won the ear of President Yoweri Museveni who is also the Chairman of the NRM party and its flag bearer in the 2011 Uganda general elections.
Sekikubo says the conduct of the NRM primary elections was not satisfactory for many party members and the party leadership must listen and solve all grievances to ensure their members are satisfied with the handling of internal issues.
He says if the NRM leadership does not solve internal grievances, many party faithful might decide to compete as independent MPs in the 2011 general elections.
Sekikubo managed to have the results in Lwemiyaga overtuned after proving that in Vet No.25 polling station, Nkalubo, got 97 votes which were recorded as 197, while in Kamoshi, Nkalubo polled 48 votes, which were indicated as 148.
The acting Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, Felistus Magomu, said investigations had discovered 200 ghost votes in favour of Nkalubo, who had earlier been declared winner of the hotly contested Lwemiyaga MP seat.
Several other candidates including ministers Sam Ejua of transport and Dr. Emanuel Otalla of Labour have managed to have their results overturned in their favour after their rivals had earlier been declared winners.
