Ugandans living in Diaspora have organized a convention aimed at boosting investments back home. Today, the Banyakitara Association inc (BAI) are holding a meeting in Waltham, Massachusetts with a focus on investment in Uganda, education opportunities abroad and immigration law.
Michael Kisembo, chairman of BAI says the Association’s members are keen on investing back home but want to know how the immigration law favours Ugandans living abroad.
Uganda passed a dual citizenship law in 2009 to enable Ugandans with citizenship in other countries to retain Uganda citizenship, and citizens of other countries to gain Uganda’s citizenship as one of the ways to encourage Ugandans in the Diaspora to invest in Uganda and be more interested in the country’s affairs.
Attorney Victor S. Maldonado, who specializes in immigration and nationality law will discuss current immigration law and the potential impact of the 2011 general elections on the Ugandan Diaspora community.
Florence Baitwa and Professor Lugira presented on education in North America, while David Mureeba briefed the participants on the investment opportunities available in Uganda.
Banyakitara are a community with ancestry in western Uganda kingdoms of Bunyoro and Toroo is an association of nonprofit that aims at promoting and preserving the cultural, economic, and philanthropic and other interests of their cultures.
