Uganda to host weeklong Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians conference from October 26th 2010

The 4th Annual Conference of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) – Africa region is scheduled to take place from 26th – 31st October 2010 in Kampala, Uganda.

The theme of the Conference is “Reducing maternal and infant mortality by 2015 : is Africa on track ?” Sessions of presentations/discussions will be on three focus areas, namely : Key policy initiatives and legislation on equal sharing of responsibilities between women and men, including care-giving in the context of HIV/AIDS, equal participation of women and men in decision making process at all levels and the gender perspectives of the financial crisis in Africa.

Key policy initiatives and legislation on equal sharing of responsibilities between women and men, including care-giving in the context of HIV/AIDS will be moved by Uganda and seconded by Cameroon.

The second topic on equal participation of men and women in decision making will be moved by South Africa and seconded by Kenya while the last topic on gender perspective of financial crisis will be moved by Namibia and seconded by Ghana.

At the end of the conference on 30th October, the women parliamentarians will be hosted to a dinner by the Ugandan women legislators. The guests will also tour the source of the Nile, Namugongo Martyrs shrine and Bujagali falls east of Kampala.
