The Chairman of the National Resistance Movement Organisation and current president of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today been nominated to contest for President of Uganda in the 2011 general elections.

Museveni was the first to be nominated by the Electoral Commission at today’s nominations taking place at Mandela National stadium, Namboole.

Museveni who was escorted by a team of supporters led by NRM Vice Chairman, Alhajji Moses Kigongo attracted a lot of jubilation when he was announced as an official candidate for NRM in the 2011 general elections.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Eng. Dr. badru Kiggundu acting as the national returning officer declared Museveni as a duly nominated candidate a few minutes past 10am.

Museveni has been president of Uganda since 1986 when his national resistance army overthrew the elected government of Appolo Milton Oboite (UPC). Museveni claimed the 1980 elections were rigged, organized a five year rebellion and toppled the Obote government. He is competing for his fourth time as an elected president.

Museveni was handed two vehicles a national flag and another flag from Always Be Tolerant organizations to ensure he ensures national unity and tolerance during his campaigns.

Museveni says him and his NRM have the best vision to develop and transform the country, and his track record shows he is an able leader.

One of the people who escorted Museveni to the nominations was Alex Onzima, an FDC MP for Maracha who recently announced his support for NRM and President Yoweri Museveni.
