Uganda Cranes will face another uphill task when they take on Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Stars on Friday at 5pm in the second semi final match of the ongoing CECAFA Challenge cup taking place in Tanzania.
Kilimanjaro Stars coach Jan Poulsen has already warned the Uganda Cranes to prepare for their first defeat in a long time, as his home side can beat any side.
Uganda Cranes will play the Kilimanjaro stars in front of a 60,000 crowd at the Mkapa national stadium. While Poulsen is also quick to praise Uganda Cranes recent good form and their past record, the Danish is going into the match with high hopes for victory, counting on the home support factor, as well as the fact that Uganda Cranes had to sweat through a penalty shoot out to beat Zanzibar at the same stadium in the quarter finals.
But Uganda Cranes Coach, Bobby Williamson is confident that his charges will put up a good show and beat Tanzania. He says the Uganda plays have learnt from their mistakes in the Zanzibar game and are playing only for a win to improve their record in the CECAFA Senior challenge cup.
Uganda will be looking for their 3rd consecutive victory in the tournament, and a record 11th title of the CECAFA senior challenge cup. The Uganda Cranes who have not lost a match in the CECAFA competition since 2008 also have a better head to head record against Tanzania, having beaten the Kilimanjaro stars 2-1 in the semi-finals of 2009 at Uganda’s Nakivubo war memorial stadium.
The Uganda Cranes will be boosted by the return of skipper Andy Mwesigwa who was absent in the Zanzibar match due to suspension and will hope their key men –mid fielder Steven Bengo, striker Emma Okwi and goalkeeper Mike Odongkara will play their best in the game to see the Ugandans to a victory.
Ethiopia and Ivory Coast will tussle it out in the other semi final match that will be played at 3pm before Uganda and Tanzania kick it off.
