The UN has reacted to concerns raised by humanitarian organizations over fears of increased attacks during the festivbe season by Uganda’s Lords Resistance Army rebels in countries where the rebels are scattered.
The United Nations has deployed 900 peacekeepers in Democratic Republic of Congo to provide more security against the rebels that are also operating in Central Africa republic and parts of Sudan.
A statement from the UN says the United Nation mission in Democratic Republic of Congo is also sending humanitarian assistance to the Dungu District of the upper Urere region until mid January.
The Ugandan rebels killed more than 1000 adults and children around Christmas in 2008 and 2009 kidnapped hundreds people.
Eight international humanitarian agencies recently called for increased military actions against the LRA led by Joseph Kony who have terrorized many people in over four countries.
