The Arch Bishop of Gulu Diocese has called for peaceful elections in Uganda as campaigns for the 2011 general elections enter high gear.
Archbishop John Baptist Odama says Ugandans should aim at maintaining unity even if they support different candidates to avoid confrontations and turmoil.
Speaking at the inauguration of NUMEC Northern Uganda Media Resource Centre in Gulu Town, he said it time Ugandans practiced total democracy which requires that people have a choice to freely vote a person of their choice and others should not intimidate or harass someone because of who they support.
The Centre which was rehabilitated by Northern Uganda Transition Initiative will be used as Media training Centre for northern Uganda.
Bishop Odama who is the patron of the Northern Uganda Media Club-NUMEC says people should be as one family during the elections times to ensure harmony and peace in the society.
He expressed concern against the rising culture of rigging elections in Uganda, and urged all concerned to ensure the elections and free and fair.
