It is not yet over for Rebecca Kadaga in the Woman MP race for Kamuli district, as the incumbent and currently unopposed candidate might still have to contend with her opponent.
The Kampala High Court has today stopped the cancellation of Kadaga’s opponent Hajjat Rehema Watongole’s academic documents by the Uganda Council of Higher Education and Busoga University.
High Court Judge Vincent Zehulikize said that the verdict should apply until court makes a final judgement of the main case in which Watongole is challenging the cancellation of her candidature by the Electoral Commission.
The Judge will now proceed to hear the case to determine whether the Electoral Commission was right to stop Rehema from the race basing on the reports made by Uganda Council of Higher Education and Busoga University.
Rehema’s Lawyer Gabriel Byamugisha said that initially his client was cleared by the Ministry of Education and the National Council for Higher Education basing on the Busoga University papers but later on the Ministry and the University administration made a U-turn claiming Busonga University senate had disowned the papers presented by Watongole.
Hajjat Rehema Watongole was contesting with the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga for Kamuli Women Member of Parliament seat.
